Kim Martucci's Blog

Kim is so in love with the science of meteorology that her number one hobby is chasing tornadoes. On her most exciting excursion into tornado alley, she spotted twelve of the dangerous storms. The story she broadcast about that trip helped earn her an Emmy Award nomination as best weathercaster in New England.

I HAVE GRADUATED ...

TO SECOND GRADE!

I'm on a roll! Today I was off in my zippy (but not *too* zippy, for the sake of the FABULOUS State Police) Hybrid to West Gate Elementary School in Manassas. I could check off another beautiful county, Prince William, in our viewing area.

This go around? The SECOND grade. Yup, all 65 of them! What a good group, too. They were EXCEPTIONALLY well behaved, thoughtful & ADORABLE! I enjoyed explaining to them the difference between SLEET and HAIL. We talked about why the forecast is sometimes WRONG (no slack for the visitor here!), and how computer weather models work. Afterwards it was class picture time. Man was that a TRIP BACK IN TIME! Bless you teachers who patiently arranged the kiddos into one compact group on the stage.

A special thank you to Mrs. Fick, the second grage teacher who invited me. AND a thank you to her husband, who stayed home from work with their sick child so she could come be at the school when I arrived. As promised, here's a "shout out" to Denise in the front office!

THANK YOU West Gate Elementary, Manassas & Prince William County for your hospitality! See you bright and early...
